Diving TenerifeScuba Vacation in the Canaries
This was my second time diving Tenerife and it proved to be every bit as good as the first scuba vacation I spent on the island. It's hard to say no to one of the most unique and diverse marine environments found anywhere on the planet. With the water temperature averaging 17-24 C (65-78 F) and visibility ranging from 20-33 meters (60-100 ft), there's no reason not to dive Tenerife. On our first trip to the island we dove with a scuba dive shop in Las Galletas. This time I wanted to visit different dive sites (there are about 35 different dive sites around the island) so I looked for a scuba diving shop in a different part of the island. I decided to check out the shops in Los Christianos and Playa de las Americas. Wannadive Dive CenterBecause of the concentration of tourist resorts in this area, there are a lot of dive shops. I wanted to find one that was close to the water. Tucked away between the shops and restaurants I found a great little dive shop called Wannadive Tenerife. They are located on Las Vistas Beach between Los Christiano's and Playa de las Americas.
This shop has every thing a good dive center should have. There is a large retail area where you can buy anything from booties to a BC. Once you walk through the door, you are introduced to everyone. The first person I met was Ian, an instructor from the U.K. He started introducing me to other staff members and divers who filling in log books and arranging their dive schedules. After 5 minutes, I felt I knew everyone. It was a very international gathering. The staff and divers were from the Netherlands, Germany, England, France, Spain and me, the odd American (thrown in for good measure).
After the introductions, Ian gave me a tour of their facilities. The shop has two main areas. On one side you have the retail shop. Here divers sign up for their dive packages or training. There is a training class room, free internet access and coffee /tea for divers and students. Across the hall there is a large area where divers can get ready for their dive trip and store their dive gear. There is plenty of room for divers to prepare their dive gear, chat with their dive buddy and listen to the dive briefings. There is also an indoor training pool.
Diving Tenerife with WannadiveBecause of their location, we were able to get to most of the best dive sites on Tenerife. Also the fact that they do three to four dives a day makes it easy to set up your schedule for diving Tenerife. They would have a dive plan for the week that included the time of the dive and the dive site for each day. This made it easy to pick the sites I wanted to visit.
Their boat picked divers up at the beach in front of the dive shop. It was just a short walk from the get ready for the dive room to the pick up area. The dive boat is a Valliant 7.5 meter (24 ft) RIB with a 225 hp outboard engine. They are able to get to most of the dive sites within 15-20 minutes. While I was there, the sea conditions were pretty calm so the boat rides were okay. In addition to boat dives, they have some nice beach diving on a reef just off shore. They also use this dive for their night dives. When you dive Tenerife with Wannadive, they offer free Nitrox to certified divers. If you are not Nitrox certified, they offer the PADI specialty course on diving with enriched air Nitrox. When in comes to diving Tenerife, the staff at Wannadive do a great job. Their professionalism, dedication and enthusiasm will help you get the most out of your diving holidays in Tenerife.
