Wild Galapagos Island Scuba Diving

Galapagos Island scuba diving is famous for its gatherings of large marine animals. It is not unusual to sight groups of eagle rays and cow-nosed rays on many of the shallower reefs. With the right sea conditions an a good local guide, it is even possible to snorkel with the most northerly penquin species on the planet-the tiny Galapagos penguin.

One of the most sought after Galapagos Island scuba experiences is an encounter with a school of scalloped hammerheads. Unfortunately, these sighting are becoming rare due to the over fishing of the shark populations around the islands. If these circumstances do not change, these sighting may vanish completely.

The rugged underwater terrain will make a Galapagos Island scuba dive a unigue experience. The underwater enviroment is covered with with contorted rock formations, twisted reefs and pitted ridges. This makes an excellent home for a very diverse marines community. The underwater life consist of over 300 species of fish, 30 species of shark and over 100 different types of crab.

Some of the larger marine visitors Galapagos Island scuba diving has to offer include several types of whales and many species of dolphin.
